IMPORTANT NOTICE
As you already know; my company LIFE RAFTS
ETC. has been the only official approved life raft/ life jacket
service- and retail center in Sint Maarten / St. Martin since
January 2009.
For a few years now, another company has been trying to open a
service center on the Dutch side and it seems they have finally
opened their station in Pointe Blanche.
I have had customers reporting to me that their people are going
around daily on board vessels, as well as visiting local businesses
and shipyards, telling them a variety of untruthful statements.
Some examples are : That I am not certified/ That my workshop is not
approved/ That I have had no formal training to service rafts/ That
LIFE RAFTS ETC. has gone bankrupt and is no longer in business/ That
I “used to” be approved but that with the opening up of their brand
new facility “all the brands” have “switched” to them and I am no
longer approved/ That
they have opened some of the rafts that I have done and that there
are “many missing or defect items” and rafts are “badly” serviced;
with lots of “grave errors”/ That all those rafts are “no good” and
need to be replaced with “VIKING” rafts; which is the ONLY brand
that they are authorised to sell and service.
For those of you that have worked with me over the past 7 years, you
know none of the above is true; (I would have been suspended by all
brands many years ago if this was the case) but as they go to every
vessel that comes through the Simpson Bay Bridge and to shipyards
some “new” people may believe those lies.
Instead of being fair competition and building a reputation of their
own with their “potential” customers like we have done, they choose
the “dirty" route by “warning” people not to have their rafts
serviced by LIFE RAFTS ETC. They are partly financed by SXM’s local
politicians & public figures so they have lots of money and they are
trying to pull on all sorts of strings such as, paying money under
the table; even trying to bribe dock attendants at the marinas and
truck drivers by offering them money to bring the rafts to their
workshop instead of mine!

The new company is not allowed to service any of the above mentioned
brands; and vessels having their rafts done by them could be pursued
and forbidden to leave the dock until their rafts are serviced by an
official brand-approved service center.
All manufacturers’ warranties on rafts will be void if ever serviced
by an unapproved service center.
In case of an incident the insurance companies will verify if safety
equipment was serviced by a brand-approved service center and WON’T
pay out if this is not the case; even if incident is not related to
safety equipment.
The
Master of a vessel is legally responsible and punishable by law if using
an unauthorised service station for his safety equipment inspections.
A service center and their technicians HAVE to be audited and
approved by the MANUFACTURER; so even if they try to bribe
government officials and local port authorities to get their
approval they are still NOT approved to service these brands. They
do not have real certificates nor authentic spare parts or may try
to obtain them illegally through an approved technician elsewhere.
A service center can “claim" to be allowed to service "all brands”;
but the only way to know if they are official is to look at the
actual BRAND website and see if they are listed as an approved
service center.
Please ALWAYS check the manufacturers’ website as this is the only
way to know if a station is officially approved to service your
rafts.
At LIFE RAFTS ETC, we do the mandatory re-certification courses for
all our brands at the required intervals; we only use authentic
spare parts and issue official BRAND-name re-inspection
certificates, we give you back all the old items that we replace
from in your raft and provide photo evidence of the raft being
serviced if you can’t make it to the workshop in person.
